A lot has been written about the gaps finding grads with required STEM backgrounds/skills. However, there are particular areas that are especially difficult to recruit – areas like analytics/big data, cloud dev expertise and even cybersecurity. The article makes some great points on how out of the box thinking (e.g. veterans, targeting earlier in the education pipeline, etc) can be used to address this gap.

If you are a small business, it can be especially challenging competing for this talent. With respect to cybersecurity specifically, I recommend adopting more cloud based solutions and hiring a managed security service provider (MSSP). Both of these options offload risk from the organization to a 3rd party. You still have to manage those vendors and ensure they are doing a good job but you should only need a couple of people versus trying to hire and staff a full security operations center (SOC).
